GRECO PIZZA & DONAIR
SKILLS' COMPETITION
(SUBJECT TO REVIEW AND AMENDMENT)

The participants of the Moncton’s High School Hockey Classic, will once again have the opportunity to compete in the 21st edition of the Skills' Competition, held in conjunction with our annual High School Hockey Classic. Past events have proven to be very successful, with both participants and spectators alike.

It will consist of two separate segments: Elimination Round, and the Finals. In the Elimination Round each team may register 10 players and 1 goaltender in four (4) different events:

A) Team Relay 1 team of 4 players

B) Rapid fire 2 players and 1 goaltender

C) Hardest Shot 2 players

D) Fastest Skater 2 players

Note: In order to save confusion at the arena, we would like all teams to submit a list of players and which event they will be participating in, to the Tournament Committee by January 10. PLAYERS MAY ONLY PARTICIPATE IN ONE EVENT EACH.

I. ELIMINATION ROUND

1) The Elimination Round will be held at a time TBA at the Red Ball Internet Centre (4-Plex) in Moncton. Players should arrive at the arena complex 90 minutes before the Elimination Round. Signage at the arenas will indicate the location of each event, along with all the participants' pre-registered numbers. Admission fee will be charged at the door and participants must have their tournament pass.

2) This year there will be 4 different skills used in the competition. A description of each is included at the end of this outline.

3) Each team, which will be in town, is asked to pre-register 10 players and 1 goaltender for this round.

4) Players must be dressed as if playing a game wearing dark "away" sweater (Full equipment must include helmet and neck protectors. This is for insurance reasons).

5) Each Elimination winner will receive a souvenir from our sponsor, and win the right to participate in the finals.

6) During the Elimination Round, points (4,3,2,1) will be attributed to the winners. These will be tabulated, and a team will be declared "Best Team". The winner will be announced during the Tournament Banquet and their team will be presented with an award.

7). We do not have access to 36 dressing rooms to be able to provide one to each team. Dressing rooms are set up by event with the doors clearly indicating which room is for which event. If in doubt ask some of the off-ice on duty people.

8) Although we will have a room to store equipment in for some of those waiting to participate or finished, the room can not accommodate all 360 participants. We would ask teams to try and make other arrangements (visiting teams flying in, we will have something set up for you, no need to worry) but we would also like to caution players about leaving equipment, sticks and or sweaters lying around the arena.

II. FINALS

1) The finals will be held at a time TBA at the Red Ball Internet Centre (4-Plex) rink A - the one with the seats. An admission fee will be charged to the public and the format will be that of a show with a master of ceremonies present.
2) The finalists will participate in the same events as in the elimination round, with individual winners being declared in each skill category.
3) Awards will be given out to individual and team winners.

III. DESCRIPTION OF THE DIFFERENT SKILLS INVOLVED (REFER TO DIAGRAMS A - D)
(Located on the WEB Site under Downloads for Skills' Diagrams)

"GRECO" SKILLS' COMPETITION

A) Team Relay

The Format for this event will be much like the Team Relay in Short Track Speed Skating (Indoors). Teams of 4 players will race around the rink on an oval course outline.
The 4 players will each follow the course layout in succession, with the first player starting at the start line and racing against other teams on the ice surface at the same time on opposite sides of the ice surface. After completing one (1) tour of the oval; the first player will hand off a baton to the next player at the transition point, which will continue until all 4 players have completed the course. Best 4 times will advance to the finals.
The top 4 men’s teams and top 4 women’s teams will advance to the finals.

B) Rapid Fire

Each player will have 6 shots on a goaltender from the area marked in the diagram. The stick cannot be raised past the waist. The most goals in the least amount of time will advance. Maximum time allotted will be 15 seconds.
The top 4 shooters and top 2 goaltenders will advance to the finals.

C) Hardest Shot

Each participant has two shots from the slot area. A speed gun shall record the velocity of the puck. Top 4 shooters will advance to the finals.

D) Fastest Skater

Players will start at point A and skate as fast as they can to point B. Players will be timed, with the best times moving on in the competition.
The top 4 skaters in both the male and female competitions will advance to the finals.

Note: If a player is suspended from the tournament, it will be at the tournament committee's discretion not to allow this player to participate at the skills.
