37th Moncton High School Hockey Classic
February 2nd - February 5th 2012
Moncton, New Brunswick
Canada
The 2012 Tournament
Committee would like
to introduce you to some of the components of the 37th edition of
Moncton's High School Hockey Classic to be held Thursday February 2nd
to Sunday February 5th 2012 and the Annual Greco Skills' Competition
to be held Friday February 3rd 2012.
The majority of the tournament is held at the new REDBALLINTERNET
CENTRE (4-PLEX) in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. The Greater Moncton area
has a population of 125,000 and is situated at the Hub of the Canadian Maritimes.
The local population is split on a 60 / 40 basis between English and French
making the trip here and the tournament itself a cultural experience for many.
Moncton City Council, together with our other sponsors are to be congratulated
for their leadership. Each year they encourage a more refined and expansive
effort resulting in a well-organized and highly competitive tournament.
Our tournament originally started out in the mid 1970's
as an all New Brunswick affair. Later, it expanded to include the best teams
from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. During the ensuing years, the tournament
continued to draw teams from further away and included representatives from
both Ontario and Quebec competing against the Maritime teams. Since 1990 when
the Classic became a sixteen team, international event, we have hosted teams
from Czechoslovakia, Slovakia, Sweden, the United States, Switzerland, Hungary,
England and 7 of the 10 Canadian Provinces. In the 2001 edition of the tournament,
a 6-team women’s division was added. In 2003, it was expanded to 16 female
teams. The 37th edition of the tournament will see 30-40 teams participating..
We are inviting AAA & AA high school teams as classified by New Brunswick
Department of Education.
Next season's tournament promises to be every bit as exciting
and successful, with several teams already having expressed interest. If you
are interested in applying for a spot in the 37th edition, please
let us know as soon as possible. The limited spots that are available for teams
from outside the province of New Brunswick are already beginning to fill for
next year's Tournament.

WHAT WE OFFER...
Accommodations:
For all visiting teams we have reserved accommodation at
our host hotels (Coastal Inn is our major corporate sponsor). The hotels are
generally situated near Champlain Place Shopping Mall, the biggest shopping
centre east of Montreal and hence offers easy access to stores, cinemas and
restaurants to both coaches and players.
Meals:
For all participating teams, there is 1 Dinner Banquet.
For the coaches there is hospitality room that offers a
wide variety of hot lunches and snacks at no charge. This room is open to coaching
staffs and special invited guests only.
Transportation:
For teams flying to Moncton and staying at one of our host
hotels we will help with transportation for the team while in Moncton. More
will follow on this as details are finalized.
Activities:
Your stay in Moncton will be filled with activities associated
with the Tournament. Thursday night is Opening Ceremonies. We encourage all
teams to participate if you arrive early. Friday is our Annual Greco Skills'
Competition. After the preliminary round in the skills competition, we end with
the competition finals and awards for finalists and winners in the different
categories. The GRECO SKILLS COMPETITION is an excellent opportunity for players
to meet the participants at this tournament. Last year, the hardest shot was
a big hit with all the players and all the events were outstanding.
NOTE: If a player is under suspension, the tournament committee
may not allow this player to participate in the GRECO SKILLS.
Saturday afternoon our Moncton's High School Hockey Classic
Tournament Banquet takes place.
Other activities such as visits to schools or nearby universities,
sightseeing or practice time (at the team's expense) etc., can also be arranged
upon request.
Games:
Most games are played in the new REDBALLINTERNET CENTRE
with others played at either the Université de Moncton or other arenas
around the Greater Moncton area. Each team is guaranteed 3 games in the round
robin portion of the tournament. Each tournament game consists of three 15-minute
stop time periods. The Tournament Championship Finals are played Sunday afternoon.
Expect good competition and disciplined hockey.
Souvenirs/Awards:
In addition to the fond memories each player takes home
with him, it is the philosophy of the Tournament that every participant should
return home with some souvenir of the Tournament. Tournament T-shirts and gifts
are some of the items that all players and coaches have taken home with them
in the past.
At the banquet, between 50 and 100 door prizes are presented to players, with
someone from every team guaranteed to take home a prize.
Tournament awards include trophies, plaques, banners, $500.00 bursaries to deserving
student athletes, medals, hockey equipment and more, to MVP's, All-stars, and
Tournament Champions etc.
WHAT WE ASK...
Registration Fee:
There is a $1200.00 registration fee/deposit
for all teams, payable when your team's participation in the Tournament is accepted.
Of this fee/deposit, $200 will be refunded after the Tournament if you followed
all the mandatory requirements (see below).
General:
Because a Tournament of this size and scope requires a
significant number of both local and national companies and businesses as sponsors,
we require that you book all hotel rooms, air flights, and car rentals through
us. We strongly recommend that all visiting teams stay at one of our host hotels.
If you do not stay at our host hotels the registration fee is $1400 with $200
as a deposit. Those who do not adhere to this requirement will not be provided
any transportation while in Moncton, nor will they have their deposit refunded.
We also ask when possible during your stay in Moncton, that you schedule as
many of the team's meals as possible at restaurants that sponsor the Tournament.
Arrival/Departure:
Teams outside of the Eastern Conference should be in Moncton
and ready to play by 1:00 pm on Friday. It should be noted, all teams will play
at least one game on Friday.
Attendance at the banquet/skills/all-star game is compulsory
for all teams. Proper attire (no jeans, sweatpants,
T-shirts or hats) is required for both players and coaches at this function.
Mandatory: To attend the GRECO SKILLS
COMPETITION, Award Banquet and to play in all of your scheduled games (preliminary
and playoffs).
Information:
We require a good deal of information concerning your team.
Various forms of this information are provided to, or required by the media,
hockey scouts, hotels, and are necessary for the Tournament Program. We also
ask that you provide us with regular updates of your won/loss record through
the fall so that we can seed the teams and set up our divisions as fairly as
possible. It is essential that this information be provided to us by the required
deadline dates. For example, we require a good quality team "jpeg"
photograph (5 inches x 7 inches, or 13 cm. x 18 cm.) and a precise and detailed
team roster for inclusion in the program, as soon as this becomes available,
but no later than December 10th. Your co-operation and consideration with this
and other similar matters will be most appreciated.
Gifts:
Since this is an international tournament, exchanging
pins or other memorabilia has become a tradition. During the weekend of the
Tournament, players and fans alike are often seen trading pins and souvenirs.
There is only one official exchange of gifts during the Tournament. During
your game on Friday, you will exchange pins prior to the start. A team photo,
pennant, or pin is traditionally the type of gift exchanged.

"The hockey season for the Ascension Collegiate Astros is now complete and as we reflect on a very successful year highlighted by winning the provincial championship we must attribute this success, in no small measure, to the "Coca-Cola" Classic Moncton experience. The experience for us was positive in every aspect and the memories are still very clear. They include:
- The prompt and friendly reception at the airport; - the courteous and accommodating staff at the host hotel; - the excitement of the skills' competition; - the spirited and fair competition of the games and the opportunity to play in your beautiful Coliseum; - the genuine friendliness of the staff at the Coliseum and the willing help of anyone wearing a "Coca-Cola" Classic sweater; ..... Mesdames et Messieurs, please be assured that participation in a tournament of this magnitude has immeasurable positive consequences for a team. We here at Ascension Collegiate sincerely thank you."
Keith Vokey, Head Coach, Ascension Collegiate,
Bay Roberts, Newfoundland

"This year was the first year that I had the privilege of participating in your tournament as
coaching staff of the FHS Lady Black Kats and overall I thought it was one of the best tournaments that I have attended.
We as a coaching staff enjoyed the hospitality room (of course) but it was also a nice place to go and relax for a minute or
two as well."
Laura Gullison, FHS Lady Black Kats
"Bonjour, premièrement merci pour un tournoi très bien organiser, les points positifs les

"The tournament was extremely well organized both on and off the ice.
Things went like clockwork. It was first class all the way. The people were so nice and went out
of their way to make us feel comfortable and at home. The team learned a lot and it was a great
experience for them."

"On the whole the tournament organization is the best we've ever been involved with. The people of Moncton have been wonderful and always helpful. The hospitality room gave me the chance to meet other coaches. That seems to be lacking at other tournaments. We would love to come back if invited. Thanks for a great tournament."
Steve Kimmerer, Head Coach, St. Andrew's College,
Toronto, Ontario
